Ever since the evolution of Muay Thai from ancient to modern days there has been an ongoing argument about the relevance of each style and the dichotomy between the two schools of thought. On one side, Muay Boran is said to be impractical, that the moves are too fancy to be applied in real situations. And on the other side, Muay Thai is said to be incomplete.

In 2008, the Naksu fighting championships was introduced in Thailand, attracting martial art practitioners from all over the country to compete in this tournament with MMA rules. [music plays] However, such tournaments seized to exist in 2012 when MMA was banned in Thailand. It was only sometime after 2016, that such a ban was overruled. Again, giving the motherland another opportunity to host competitions beyond Muay Thai.
