Kyle Nelson aims to make a big statement in the UFC featherweight division.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that Nelson will face perennial contender Calvin Kattar at the UFC’s event on Sept. 7. The booking was first reported by MMA Junkie.
The location and venue for the fight card has yet to be announced.
Kattar has had a tough run as of late, dropping three straight, and four of his past five outings. In his most recent appearance, Kattar lost a dominant unanimous decision to former bantamweight champ Aljamain Sterling at April’s UFC 300 event. The bout served as Kattar’s first since suffering a brutal knee injury in a loss to Arnold Allen in October 2022.
Nelson is unbeaten in four straight as he enters the biggest bout of his career to date. “The Monster” delivered a big-time performance when he stopped Bill Algeo in the first-round of his most recent bout at UFC Atlantic City in March.
