The referees and judges for UFC 296’s two title fights have been assigned by the Nevada Athletic Commission.
In the main event, referee Herb Dean will serve as the third man in the octagon when Leon Edwards defends his welterweight title against Colby Covington. It will be the second consecutive fight where Dean has refereed a title fight for Edwards, as he was also in the cage on the night the reigning UFC welterweight king defended his belt against Kamaru Usman back in March in Edwards’ native England.
The judges scoring UFC 296’s main event will be Sal D’amato, Derek Cleary, and Chris Lee.
As for the co-main event, where Alexandre Pantoja takes on Brandon Royval in a rematch for the UFC flyweight title, Marc Goddard will serve as the referee for the matchup.
Judges scoring the fight will be Ron McCarthy, Junichiro Kamijo, and Eric Colon.
The remainder of the referee and judges assignments for UFC 296 will be handed out on fight night on Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
UFC 296 caps off the year for the promotion, with the main card kicking off on ESPN+ pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET on Saturday and the prelims set to begin at 6 p.m. ET from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
