(mystical music) (moving to rock music) – [Roy] Palm Springs,
California, Coachella Valley. My name is Roy Dean. And, I came to the desert to train. I've been coming here a long
time, since my blue belt days. My friends Stan and Anthony
were also blue belts back then. We were hungry young students. Now, we're 3rd degree black belts and we're still on the path. Come, take a look. (chattering) – So, again trap to the chest, grab low. For example, really try to
execute the flower sweep but in cross pose, so it's step over. I can finish (mumbles) right here or if I have the pant leg I
can just continue him over. Trap to the chest.
Grab low towards the ankle. And, when we flare this leg out. One more time. Guys got it? (students speaking foreign language) – Ready? (clapping) So, from here I'm gonna
do the same kinda deal, but this time I'm just
gonna push that hand down, catch this triangle here. I'm gonna cross this arm, grab the shin bone. I like to grab, put the foot on the hip. And, watch how I open
this and get a nice bite on that neck. Secure. Release. – That's a nice little adjustment. – You felt adjustment or… – Yeah, it was good. – Good for me or you? – Me. – So, I go here, push this, trap. Hips up, cross the arm,
you grab the shin bone foot on hip.
Watch how there's a
little space right here. I wanna take out that space. So, I open it. Nice and tight. I like to grab around the knee. And, squeeze. Again try and sweep. Get that angle. I want this leg straight
across his neck this way, not down his back. – You guys got it?
(speaking foreign language) – Show him we're (mumbles).
– Ready? (clapping) (mumbles) – [Student] Yes sir, thank you. (speaking foreign language) – Ready?
(clapping) – [Man] What's happening? – How's Ben? Have you talked to him yet? – [Man] He came in Monday
in like light rolls. He got a shot, cortisone shot Saturday. Yeah. (speaking foreign language) – [Anthony] That's a, yeah. – That's not gonna heal anything. – [Anthony] That's just gonna hide it. I said, I go you can't go hard now, dude.
And, then he went running
like right after it. And, then he ran Sunday. I'm like, dude, can you chill?
– You got to test it. You gotta test it. – You know Rain's like pulling on the leg. He's like there's so much
muscle, it's so tight, like you can't even
tell that it's damaged. So, that's what's nice about having those freakin' tree trunk legs. – [Man] I wish I had that. – Yeah, me too (chuckling). So, we'll start from here, he's down. And, I'm gonna go, let's start from here. Feet on the hips, two sleeves.
I'm gonna switch my feet over here and kinda invite him to
start passing this way. Grab the bottom of the pant leg here. And, I gotta make sure
I keep my knees in tight so he doesn't have a lot of openings to settle in on me. So, from here I can either wait for him to try to jump that knee. And, make sure you keep that knee in so when he starts to jump it, I'm gonna lift his hip
and transfer his weight to that corner with my knee
here, take him over the top. And, come out on top here. Lay back. So, sometimes you can wait
for him to try to jump it.
Or I can redirect him by
pushing the opposite way that I want him to push. I'll start to push up this way. And, when he comes back, I load him up over me and take him down. Over in that corner again. So, again, we'll start from two sleeves. Kinda using my shins
inside that elbow pit. I'm gonna cross my foot over and grab the bottom of the pant leg. So, you can kinda be patient here. As he starts to come around, make sure he doesn't get past that knee. I bring my knees in. Again. So, again as he starts
to try to jump that knee, I invite him in, and then I transfer his
weight to that corner and he can't post.
So, lots of reps on this. A nice way to set it up
if he's being patient here is I start to push the opposite way. When he comes back, I'm right back into it. All right, you guys got it? (speaking foreign language) Let's go, one, two, three.
(clapping) – Same start here. If I'm going for this sweep, a lot of times a guy will
hook his arm around your head to try to catch his balance here. When he does, I'm just gonna
push away with my feet, pinch my knees. I like to put this arm all the way around. My ear pinch that, knee pinch down. Grab the elbow and apply the lock. I wanna make sure my
knees are pinching here. So, again I'm here. I go for the sweep. He catches the head. I'm gonna push away, pinch. Here. Holding down. Jo sweep. There's a common defense
to try to keep their base. Push right here. You're up, blocking the shoulder. Fetch. You guys got it?
(speaking foreign language) Ready?
(clapping) Then the guy bends that arm a little bit.
Come down, come down. Just keep it here, you
know like a rotational. Over here. – If I was deeper, like I kinda like here, I kinda ended up get into
here and kinda crush him. – I should go overpower you. – [Anthony] His two legs should
be stronger than your bicep. – Yeah but, if he turns
it down a little bit. – [Anthony] Turn down to what? – You can catch him a little bit of a… – [Man In Blue Belt] Yeah, it's… – So, from say similar kinda position except I'm gonna cross grip this sleeve and this one here. I'm gonna cross his arms. I wanna circle this one inside here. Watch I'll push this left one out. I'm gonna kinda bridge up on my shoulder.
I'm gonna open his arms, spin through. I wanna shoot my hip tall. I don't let go of these sleeves until I get as good of
a triangle as I can. Then I'll go to finish. Go so from here. Cross grip. Cross grip, so it's left hand first, and then right. I'm gonna move my hip out. Lasso this one. Get up on my shoulders. Open his arms, spin through. Watch how I shoot this leg up. I wanna really cross his arms. Foot flex on the triangle, secure it, then you go for the finish. So, again, so from here,
I'm gonna cross grip, cross grip, lasso, open. – Some of you guys go sweep
here go to the ground here like you're trying to stay
and you're not moving, right? A lot of you guys are having that problem.
So, get your butt up, then
my head can dive under and I can stay nice and
close to him and connect it. Now some of you older guys
just don't have that, right? That's hard. So, watch this. I'm here. I'm gonna pass the grip under my leg and then over and then I'm just gonna do the cheater. – [Student] It's easier. – Then you guys. Right? – [Student] So, there's
two ways to do this. – Okay, I'm gonna pass it under, this one over, and then
just shoot the hip up, little shortcut.
All right, one more time. Young guys can do it too. (mystical music) All right? Let's try it one, two, three. (clapping) (moving to rock music).
