Brandon Moreno vs. Amir Albazi set for five rounds at UFC’s targeted return to Mexico City

The UFC is expected to return to Mexico, and will be bringing one of the country’s biggest stars to compete.

Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a matchup between Brandon Moreno and Amir Albazi will serve as the five-round co-main event for a UFC Fight Night card on Feb. 24. UFC broadcast partner ESPN Deportes first reported the bout was being targeted.

Although the UFC has yet to officially announce the location, the card is targeted to take place in Mexico City.

Moreno will look to bounce back after losing the flyweight title to Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 290 in July. “The Assassin Baby” is a former two-time world champion after completing a compelling four-fight series with Deiveson Figueiredo at January’s UFC 283 event, winning back the title with a dominant TKO victory.

Albazi could find himself in a flyweight championship bout with a victory over a former titleholder, as he enters his biggest fight to date on a six-fight win streak.

Damon Martin contributed to this report.
