When I first heard that Wyandotte County – home to over 165,000 residents – didn’t have a single Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program, I was shocked. This martial art, which has become a fundamental component of MMA training worldwide, somehow hadn’t established roots in this Kansas community. Until now.

Ray Freeman, a dedicated martial artist with a passion for community building, has taken a bold step by launching One Community Jiu Jitsu Club in August 2024. This isn’t just another gym opening – it’s a potential game-changer for local combat sports enthusiasts and aspiring fighters.

Why This Matters for the MMA Community

BJJ has long been considered an essential discipline for anyone serious about mixed martial arts. From the early UFC days when Royce Gracie shocked the world to today’s champions like Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev, ground fighting skills have proven crucial in the octagon.
